TCA Peel
Before and After Gallery
Trichloracetic acid (TCA) has been used for many years to treat facial wrinkles, age spots, pigment abnormalities, mask of pregnancy and other superficial skin problems. The TCA Peel is a most innovative way to easily and optimally rejuvenate the skin using a special based formulation.
The TCA Peel causes sloughing or removal of the upper layers of skin. Normally these are the layers that are damaged by the elements such as sun, wind and neglect. By removing the upper layers of skin, the overall skin texture is dramatically smoothed, superficial wrinkles are quickly eliminated and color irregularities are improved. The advantage of this peel is that its pasty like texture makes the application easy and ensures even uptake into the skin . Patients benefit by regaining a fresher more vibrant appearance.
The actual procedure is carried out after pretreatment with glycolic acids and Retin A™ for 4 weeks. Patients are placed on antibiotics and antiviral agents before the procedure and stay on these for about a week. The patient just before the treatment uses a topical numbing cream and the skin is rid of excess oil. TCA is applied and left on the skin for 10-15 minutes and then gently removed using a moistened sponge. Aquaphor™ ointment is then applied and the patient is driven home. Healing is likened to that of a moderate sunburn and takes about one week to complete. We encourage the use of Dermacia MD Lycogel® Camouflage products to help with healing and to minimize post treatment redness. It also very is important to stay out of intense sun for about one month after the procedure and to utilize sunscreens or blocks with an SPF of at least 30. Retin A™ and topical bleaching creams are reinitiated at about 2 weeks after the peel has been performed.
