About Skin Cancer - Facts

It is estimated that over 1 million new cases of nonmelanoma skin cancer occur annually. This number is growing significantly and thus it represents a growing public concern. It has been estimated that nearly half of all Americans who live to age 65 will develop skin cancer at least once.

The most common warning sign of skin cancer is a change in the appearance of the skin, such as a new growth or a sore that will not heal and persists for more than 2 months. The three most common skin cancers, from the least to the most dangerous, include:

* Basal Cell Carcinoma
* Squamous Cell Carcinoma
* Malignant Melanoma

The two most common forms of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, are also referred to as nonmelanoma skin cancer. Melanoma is generally the most serious form of skin cancer because it can sometimes (metastasize) throughout the body quickly. Oncologists and other cancer specialists help our ADAS providers manage more difficult skin cancer cases.

We, at ADAS, recommend that you have a total skin exam annually. To set up an appointment, call 904-285-7546 or click here.
