Filler (Lips)

Before and After Gallery

WHY FULLER LIPS?

Fuller lips are an indication of youth and beauty. As we grow older the lips become thinner and longer, and fine vertical lines appear - making lipstick bleed. Fortunately, there are various techniques available to help improve this situation, and the providers at ADAS, Associates in Dermatology and Aesthetic Surgery, can elaborate on them to assist you in your selection. The main fillers that are used in the lips are Restylane™, Perlane™, Juvederm™, Autologous Fat, and Evolence™ (Breeze).

HOW LONG DOES TREATMENT TAKE?

Lip augmentation can take up to 30 minutes to perform, not including 15 minutes for the dental block. Techniques today make this a virtually painless and easy procedure to perform.

WHAT IS THE PRE CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR LIP AUGMENTATION?

Typically, we ask that you discontinue the use of blood thinners for one week before your procedure. If you have a strong history of cold sores on the lipo, then we will prescribe an antiviral medication which is to be taken 1 day before your procedure. To minimize bruising, we recommend a medication called Arnica before your procedure.

HOW MUCH DISCOMFORT CAN I EXPECT?

There is minimal if any discomfort with this treatment. A topical anesthetic and dental block are all that is used. If you are anxious, we can prescribe and anti-anxiety medication regimen which can be taken 1 to 2 hours before your procedure. Someone must drive you to and from the office if this regimen is prescribed. Pain usually is described as minimal to moderate. It can easily be controlled with ice and medications such as Motrin™ or Advil™.

HOW LONG WILL I STAY SWOLLEN?

There can be some minor redness and swelling of the skin. This quickly disappears within a matter of days. Bruising can persist for up to one week.

WHAT ABOUT POST OP CARE?

We recommend a very nice post injection lip balm. It is important to stay out of intense sun for at least one week after your treatment. We also recommend that you initiate a low dose corticosteroid medication to minimize swelling which occurs in most instances. Concealing makeup, e.g. Jane Iredale™, can be used to minimize redness and bruising.

HOW LONG WILL THE EFFECTS OF THE TREATMENT LAST?

Lip Augmentation effects can be seen for up to a year or more. Repeat treatments are sometimes required for our Jacksonville, Fleming Island and Ponte Vedra Beach patients, but this is determined on a case by case basis. In our experience, patient satisfaction has been extremely high for this procedure.
