Botox™
Before and After Gallery
WHAT IS BOTOX COSMETIC™?
Botox Cosmetic™ is a bacterial product that can be administered to reduce the activity of overactive facial muscles which lead to unwanted deep wrinkles. Originally used for the treatment of crossed eyes, Botox™ is now used for limiting the action of muscles of the face which cause frown lines of the nose, forehead, crows feet, and wrinkles around the mouth. The mechanism of action is reversible weakness of targeted muscles.
HOW LONG DOES TREATMENT TAKE? HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE NEEDED?
At ADAS, Associates of Dermatology and Aesthetic Surgery, our average treatment session lasts from 5 minutes to 30 minutes. Treatment time correlates with the area(s) that are treated or if we perform concomitant filler therapies. One treatment with Botox Cosmetic™ lasts from 3 to 6 months. When fillers are combined with Botox Cosmetic™, studies have shown a cosmetic benefit which lasts up to 12months. Repeat treatments are carried out when the benefits of Botox Cosmetic™ have worn off.
WHAT IS THE PRE CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR BOTOX COSMETIC™?
Typically, we ask our patients to discontinue the use of retinoic acid products and glycolic acid 3 to 4 days before treatment. In addition, we have patients discontinue blood thinners one week before their procedure. We usually administer Tylenol™ at the time of the treatment. This will help to alleviate headache development, which sometimes occurs with Botox Cosmetic™ therapy.
HOW MUCH DISCOMFORT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE TREATMENT?
There is minimal, if any, discomfort with our Botox Cosmetic™ procedure. No topical anesthetic is required.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEE THE RESULTS?
We advise our Jacksonville, Fleming Island and Ponte Vedra Beach patients that it can take up to 3 to 7 days to see Botox Cosmetic's effects. If you do not see results at this time, then it is possible that you are resistant to treatment or are forming antibodies to Botox Cosmetic™.
WHAT ABOUT POST OP CARE?
We recommend avoiding exercise for 24 hours. Do not lie flat for 4 hours after treatment. We also recommend that you have Tylenol™ ready for any post Botox Cosmetic™ headache. Concealing makeup, e.g. Jane Iredale ™, can be used to minimize redness or bruising if it should occur. Patients are advised to call us if they develop any complications, e.g., brow drop, double vision. These are very rare occurrences.
